STANDARD LIEGE vs LIVERPOOL (CHAMPS LEAGUE)

<7.35> <3.95> <1.35>

Liverpool don't have many injury concerns, with Steven Gerrard topping the list but he's probably going to play anyway, having travelled to Belgium and trained with the team. The only absentee is Finnan. I won't claim to know much about Standard Liege but with a full strength Liverpool squad, FURTHERMORE in a Champions League match, it would be dumb to bet against them. I'm also taking Robbie Keane as first scorer because I think he'll be keen to impress on his debut. But I can't find that bet on SGPools so :)

Roland's prediction: $5 on Liverpool @ 1.35 = $6.75

TWENTE ENSCHEDE vs ARSENAL (CHAMPS LEAGUE)

<6.70> <3.75> <1.40>

Arsenal have Cesc Fabregas, Kolo Toure, Abou Diaby, Senderos, Samir Nasri, Eduardo and Rosicky out. However, they still have quality in their young guns who have performed superbly in the pre-season friendlies, like Aaron Ramsey and Denilson and Walcott. Oh and Robin van Persie isn't injured for once, which will lessen the impact of the injuries. Honestly, the only reason why an Arsenal win is @ 1.40 is because of the injuries that they've sustained, and it can be argued that the replacements available are more than enough quality to see off FC Twente.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Arsenal @ 1.40 = $7

i disagree. arsenal have too many players out for them to be considered a real force, imo. and that's coming from an arsenal fan. i think the +1.5 handicap for twente looks good, especially considering the fact that they are at home. arsenal's inexperience will count against them.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on fc twente @ 1.55 = $7.75

IVORY COAST OLYM vs AUSTRALIA OLYM (OLYMPICS)

<1.60> <3.45> <4.65>

Australia have been useless. They just love to defend and do not go forward with ambition. Which is why Ivory Coast should beat them senseless with their attacking pedigree. Don't expect a high scoring match as Australia seem to have this stubborn resistance that kept a very talented Argentina out for 70+ minutes until Ezequiel Lavezzi got the winning goal.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Ivory Coast @ 1.60 = $8

i don't necessarily agree that australia love to defend, it's just that their team are defensive because of the obvious lack of quality. with players like jade north being one of your best defenders, you know you're in for a rough time. ivory coast, love to attack, and seem to not know how to defend, meaning a big bet on ivory coast might prove fatal, should the aussies somehow eke a draw. so just put a fiver on ivory coast, and watch them win. they should.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on ivory coast @ 1.60 = $8.00

NIGERIA OLYM vs JAPAN OLYM (OLYMPICS)

<1.67> <3.30> <4.40>

japan were unlucky to lose to the usa the other day, showing considerable attacking threat without the cutting edge or finish needed to actually win games. however, i think nigeria, with their superb technique and far superior physique, should be able to edge out japan here.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on nigeria @ 1.67 = $8.35

SERBIA OLYM vs IVORY COAST OLYM (OLYMPICS)

<3.08> <3.15> <2.05>

ivory coast looked very dangerous the other day when they came up against the formidable argentina, with kalou in particular looking world-class. expect the likes of him and gervinho to terrorise the serbians in this match-up. serbia looked rather ordinary against australia (bunch of shitkickers), and as such, i think ivory coast will win this one, no problems.

- Eddy's prediction: $10 on ivory coast @ 2.05 = $20.50
$5 on ivory coast -1.5 @ 4.35 = $21.75

MANCHESTER UTD vs PORTSMOUTH (COMMUNITY SHIELD)

<1.53> <3.65> <4.95>

Oh wow, the first shade of red in 2 months! Well, I'm back! Man Utd team news: Ronaldo, Rooney, Hargreaves, Park, Foster are out. Pompey team news: Kanu, Diarra, Sean Davis, and Glen Little are out. While Man Utd have their main players in Ronaldo and Rooney out, Tevez isn't a poor lone striker, especially with Carrick and Nani back fit to support him. Onto Pompey, Crouch + Defoe look set to start and if Crouch + Torres couldn't score against Man Utd, Crouch + Defoe will struggle even more. Pompey were terribly lucky to beat United in the FA cup and I think Fergie's men will exact their revenge today in a tight match. The 2-1 in Nigeria is a testament to that :p

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man Utd @ 1.53 = $7.65
$5 on Man Utd 1-0 @ 6.50 = $32.50

TAMPINES ROVERS vs SUPER REDS (S-LEAGUE)

<2.58> <3.25> <2.30>

this is a clash between the two most entertaining sides in the league this season. both sides have wowed all with their slick interplay and fancy footwork, though it must be said they both lack the ruthlessness of teams like home united and saffc. their last meeting was a 5-0 thrashing of tampines, but that was when the super reds were pretty much an unknown quantity. this is unlikely to happen again, and i foresee a closer match this time. i think tampines were desperately unlucky to not win at young lions last time out, and with odds of 2.58, a tampines win is worth a pop.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on tampines @ 2.58 = $12.90

Monday, August 4, 2008

SENGKANG vs GEYLANG (S-LEAGUE)

<5.15> <3.45> <1.55>

sengkang won their last game, and that probably means they won't win for the next 56 matches. therefore, you should take the 1.55 for geylang and be happy. don't be too greedy, because sengkang and young lions are what i term as bastard teams. they don't read the script, and often pull off upsets to upset punters.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on geylang @ 1.55 = $7.75

SINGAPORE SELECT vs BRAZIL OLYMPIC TEAM (FRIENDLY)

<20.00> <7.80> <1.02>

this match hinges not on quality, but on motivation, in my opinion. singapore's players will be motivated to give their best, while brazil's players will be too busy underestimating us to actually play well. alexandre pato illustrated this when he boasted that he wanted to score more than one goal against us. in injury news, precious is out, which is undoubtedly good news, as his lack of speed would have killed us. defensive players like valery hiek and kenji arai have been included, and that can only be good news. although i still see singapore losing, i think we should be backed at +3.5. personally, i have $5 on a draw, but that is a really long punt, so you might not wanna follow that one.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on singapore +3.5 @ 1.95 = $9.75

Thursday, July 24, 2008

CARDIFF vs CELTIC (FRIENDLY)

<3.90> <3.05> <1.77>

this might be a friendly, but i see the 1.77 on offer for a celtic win, as outstanding value. it's hard to see how glenn loovens, the only good defender in this cardiff side, will be able to stop jan vennegoor of hesselink and giorgios samaras from scoring in this one. aiden mcgeady is also quite a handful, and will take some stopping on the flanks. in a tournament where every goal counts as a point, expect cardiff to come out attacking, which would allow celtic to kill them off.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on celtic @ 1.77 = $8.85

Wednesday, July 23, 2008

HOME UNITED vs WOODLANDS WELLINGTON (S-LEAGUE)

<1.25> <4.75> <8.50>

home united go into this game on the back of 4 consecutive league victories, including wins over tough sides like the super reds and geylang united. they also managed to beat young lions 1-0, and we all know how difficult that can be sometimes. woodlands are on the back of some woeful form, getting smacked 3-1 and 4-1 by tampines and saffc respectively. before that, they could only hold sengkang punggol to a 0-0 draw. thus, i think the time has come for the underperforming rams to finally perform. thing is, it is difficult to think of woodlands being able to beat home united, but i think a +1.5 handicap is worth considering.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on woodlands +1.5 @ 1.67 = $8.35
$5 on draw at half-time @ 2.35 = $11.75

GEYLANG UNITED vs TAMPINES ROVERS (S-LEAGUE)

<4.20> <3.30> <1.70>

this game is incredibly difficult to tip. geylang looked very impressive when they beat gombak united, while tampines rovers have been playing brilliant attacking football for quite a few games now. as such, tipping on the 1x2 market is really tricky. i would thus advise a tip on goalscorer. khairul amri has joined tampines rovers, but his name is not on the list of goalscorers open to singapore pools for betting. also, aliff shaffaein has been brilliant for the rovers, but he too, doesn't feature on the list of first and last goalscorers. for geylang, fazrul nawaz is also not on the list. as such, i think a punt on PLAYER NOT LISTED is worth a shot.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on first goalscorer is player not listed @ 3.40 = $17.00
$5 on last goalscorer is player not listed @ 3.40 = $17.00

ALBIREX NIIGATA vs BALESTIER KHALSA (S-LEAGUE)

<2.30> <2.87> <2.90>

both sides haven't won for some time. balestier for a very long time. they haven't had 3 points since t-rex, brontosaurus and their bunch of friends laid claim to Earth. albirex have done slightly better, although they have not won since their sensational win over super reds on june 21st. strangely though, albirex have not conceded a goal in the league in their past two matches. their defeat to home utd before that was also not an embarrassing one, losing out 2-0. i fancy albirex to win this even match-up. this is mainly because, looking at the next fixtures for these two teams, albirex face tampines, where they will certainly not win, while balestier face young lions, where they should win. as such, my reasoning is that the winless streak will end for albirex tonight, while it will end for balestier next week. also, albirex didn't score in their past two, and i expect them to get goals today.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on albirex @ 2.30 = $11.50
$5 on albirex to score 1st @ 1.90 = $9.50

Sunday, July 20, 2008

JEF UTD CHIBA vs GAMBA OSAKA (J-LEAGUE)

<4.20> <3.30> <1.70>

jef utd chiba finally broke their losing streak when they held albirex niigata 2-2 away from home, which is kinda impressive. however, for a club looking doomed to relegation, that's probably that, and they're gonna lose today. i'm looking at gamba osaka winning this one, with lucas and bare leading the charge.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on gamba osaka @ 1.70 = $8.50

Saturday, July 19, 2008

HOME UNITED vs YOUNG LIONS (S-LEAGUE)

<1.19> <5.35> <9.80>

both sides will go into this match full of confidence. home united, because of their excellent football, which has brought them wins over an improving albirex, geylang, and of course, the super reds. young lions, will also be confident, having not let in goals for a long time, despite playing some of the worst and most boring football we have seen in years. as such, the 1.19 on offer by no means a sure banker, as the young lions are one of those sides that will do anything (ie punt long balls, elbow opponents, chase you to the corner flag, shoot your parents, set fire to your house, etc) to get a point. as such, please don't pour your life savings on home united, who will be missing shahril ishak and peres de oliveira, their two main creative hubs. i still think home united will win, but with odds of 1.19, please don't bother. instead, ill go for HT-FT.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on home to lead at HT @ 1.70 = $8.50
$5 on D-H @ 4.30 = $21.50

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

YOUNG LIONS vs GEYLANG UNITED (S-LEAGUE)

<3.70> <2.80> <2.00>

interestingly, odds for a geylang win have been rising since yesterday. i think this can be put down to their performances over bangkok university in the RHB Singapore Cup, with punters thinking they are world-beaters now. truth is they are not. they are shit-kickers to the extreme. they have THREE good players, isa halim, hariss harun and ismail yunos. of the 3, hariss harun is out for the rest of the season, so i expect young lions to really struggle. for geylang, they will welcome back aide iskander and baihakki khaizan, tightening up the backline. in fact, miroslav latiak's injury might be a blessing in disguise, as fazrul nawaz can be unleashed on daniel hammond, who is the white titus bramble of the s-league. i'm going big with geylang, even though i endured a torrid time with the young lions last week.

- Eddy's predictions: $10 on geylang @ 2.00 = $20.00
$5 on geylang to score 1st goal @ 1.92 = $9.60
$5 on geylang to lead at half time @ 2.80 = $14.00

Monday, July 14, 2008

DALIAN SHIDE vs TAMPINES ROVERS (S-LEAGUE)

<9.20> <4.20> <1.28>

after a terrible week last time out, i've got to be more cautious this week. tampines looks like a sure banker for the victory here, as dalian shide is shite. even qiu li's absence is unlikely to prevent dalian from getting points here, considering the speed and guile of aliff shaffaein and sutee suksomkit. mustafic fahrudin is likely to have a field day stamping his authority in the midfield exchanges. but, as i said, i'm gonna be more cautious this week, so i'm just going for the simple win.

- Eddy's predictions: $10 on tampines @ 1.28 = $12.80

Sunday, July 13, 2008

YOKOHAMA F MARINOS vs ALBIREX NIIGATA (J-LEAGUE)

<1.80> <3.25> <3.75>

yokohama are in bad form. they've lost their last 3, and are languishing in the bottom half of the table. regular readers of this site will probably have guessed my prediction by now. yes, yokohama to break their bad run and get all 3 pts.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on yokohama @ 1.80 = $9.00

Saturday, July 12, 2008

OITA TRINITA vs URAWA REDS (J-LEAGUE)

<3.60> <3.45> <1.78>

oita trinita have a very solid home record, and they will fancy their chances against the urawa reds. however, in recent weeks, the reds seem to have regained the sparkle, and they now play like the best footballing side in the world, arsenal. hahahaha ok im biased. back to serious matters, for a semi-decent side like oita trinita, they're just not losing enough at home, having been defeated only once, and that was by gamba osaka. the urawa reds can be backed in this game, but do not go all in. as i've said, the reds play like arsenal, but they also miss chances like arsenal and fail to put teams away. as such, this is by no means a sure banker, but i think the likes of edmilson in attack, and tulio from setpieces will really trouble oita.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on urawa reds @ 1.78 = $8.90

NAGOYA GRAMPUS 8 vs KASHIWA REYSOL (J-LEAGUE)

<2.05> <3.25> <3.00>

nagoya head into this matchup with kashiwa after an unexpected loss to albirex niigata last time out. their opponents now are kashiwa reysol, who lead them on goal difference in 3rd place. should be an exciting match-up, and i really can't see nagoya losing this one, especially after the defeat last week. tough choice between the draw and the win, but i think i'll go for the win, purely because kashiwa are unbeaten in 9 games. has to end somewhere no?

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on nagoya grampus @ 2.05 = $10.25

Friday, July 11, 2008

YOUNG LIONS vs BANGKOK UNI (SINGAPORE CUP)

<4.20> <3.20> <1.73>

well. big shock last time, but i feel that bangkok university, if they get knocked out, would be a blow to football. they play good attacking quick football, and if teams like young lions can beat them, with a dan hammond goal, then i think it's sad. take bangkok for the win, but don't go too heavy. ismail yunos is out, and isa halim is back, so that pretty much evens things up for young lions.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on bangkok uni @ 1.73 = $8.65
$5 on bangkok uni score 1st goal @ 1.55 = $7.75

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

SUPER REDS vs SAFFC (SINGAPORE CUP)

<2.68> <3.20> <2.25>

super reds will go into this match with a bit of an unknown factor. they have brought in 3 new players from korea, and we all know what happened the last time they brought back reinforcements from korea. saffc go into this game with aleksander duric going through a scoring drought of sorts, but norikazu murakami has taken over the duties, scoring 4 in his last 2. anyway, duric has not scored the opening goal for quite some time, and i reckon a wager on him scoring the first goal is worth a pop at 4.70. also, i can see saffc winning this, as the super reds look really tired. don't go in too heavy, as they have the new players from korea, as i mentioned. also, strangely, oh ddog yi is not in spools' list of first and last scorers, which is strange, because he usually is on the list. this suggests to me he's injured, even though I can't be sure, cos i can't find injury news on him.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on saffc @ 2.25 = $11.25
$5 on saffc to score 1st @ 1.85 = $9.25
$5 on duric to score first @ 4.70 = $23.50

TAMPINES vs HOME UNITED (SINGAPORE CUP)

<2.75> <2.95> <2.35>

and my losing streak went on...bangkok university inexplicably succumbed to a goal from the guy i've been least impressed with in the young lions team, daniel hammond. well, my luck's gotta turn sometime? i think home united should win against tampines because they have the better players, if only just. mustafic fahrudin will look to foil the creativity of the home midfielders, but i think he'll have his work cut out trying to neutralise shahril ishak, peres de oliveira and shi jiayi. i'm backing home united and i hope they don't disappoint.

- Eddy's predictions: $5 on home utd @ 2.35 = $11.75
$5 on home utd to win at halftime @ 3.15 = $15.75
$5 on home utd to score first @ 1.85 = $9.25

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

BANGKOK UNI vs YOUNG LIONS (SINGAPORE CUP)

<1.25> <4.75> <8.40>

the young lions look in awful shape. khairul amri has left, hariss harun has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a bad injury, and isa halim is suspended for this one. this means that the young lions have noone half-decent to play. the remainder of the team is made up of shitkickers, and given their attacking threat is close to nil with the absentees, i expect bangkok to win this one.

- Eddy's predictions: $10 on bangkok uni @ 1.25 = $12.50
$5 on bangkok uni to win at half-time @ 1.58 = $7.90

Monday, July 7, 2008

WOODLANDS vs TOBACCO FC (SINGAPORE CUP)

<2.50> <3.20> <2.40>

woodlands head into this game after a 1-1 draw last week in the first leg. this time, they will have abdelhadi laakkad back from injury. hasrin jailani should also be back for them, and this, i think is crucial, as it should give woodlands the superiority in midfield, considering the thais are without their captain. i feel woodlands have a big chance of winning this.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on woodlands @ 2.50 = $12.50
$5 on woodlands to score 1st goal @ 2.10 = $10.50
$5 on woodlands to lead at half time @ 3.45 = $17.25
