HULL CITY vs ASTON VILLA (EPL)

Hull have capitulated in recent weeks and conceded 9 goals in their last 2 games. Knowing Hull, they will likely bounce back from the dismal results and play their hearts out against Villa. However, Villa have shown that they are mentally resilient and can get the results even when their players aren't playing too well. They turned in an excellent performance against Arsenal and they will head into this game full of confidence having salvaged a very late point that keeps their 4th spot intact. I think Villa should be able to win this one, but don't expect a 4-0 drubbing.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Villa -0/0.5 @ 1.750 = $8.75

i disagree here. hull city have long been written off by me as a shit team, and that's because they are. however, there are a few factors pushing me to think that hull can upset villa here by recording a draw at least.

1) villa have been too lucky, too long. they have achieved results they don't deserve in the past few weeks, and with all lucky runs, they come to an end.
2) hull were hammered twice in two matches. surely they have some pride and will respond.
3) bernard mendy up against luke young. mendy has the skill and guile to beat luke young at least 6 times out of ten, and i think this will be how they can push villa all the way.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on hull city +0.5 @ 1.96 = $9.80

EVERTON vs SUNDERLAND (EPL)

Everton have only won 1 game at home, while they have won 7 games away. Everton are definitely a side with quality and to only win 1 game out of 9 at home is a shcoking statistic, which I think will be made right against Sunderland. Everton have been very solid at the back and have coped very well with their lack of strikers and injury crisis. I think Sunderland's recent run of results - trashing West Brom 4-0 and Hull 4-1 were just the result of Roy Keane leaving and not because they have such great quality within their squad, as seen by the unambitious and shitty performance at home against Blackburn. Everton to win this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Everton -0.5/1 @ 2.050 = $10.25

BOLTON vs WIGAN (EPL)

Bolton host an in form Wigan who have won 4 games at home and only lost 1-0 to Arsenal at the emirates in their last 5 matches. Conversely, Bolton have seen a slump in their earlier form that brought them up the table, losing 3 games in their last 4. However, one must take things into perspective - they were against Chelsea, Villa and Liverpool, all members of the top 4 (lol@Arsenal). Kevin Davies is likely to start and Bolton should have enough quality to beat Wigan, who have lost Cattermole due to him accumulating 5 yellows. Michael Brown is set to replace Cattermole and he will give a lot of fouls away, and we all know how lethal Bolton are at set pieces.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Bolton -0/0.5 @ 1.930 = $9.65

WEST HAM vs STOKE CITY (EPL)

Well, West Ham have steadily improved over their last few matches - first drawing 1-1 at Chelsea, unluckily losing to Villa at home and then beating Portsmouth 4-1 away. They have coped rather well without Dean Ashton and Zola has reinvented them into an attacking team. Stoke will probably look to keep West Ham out by defending in numbers like they did at Old Trafford, but I think that West Ham's wing play with Faubert, Illunga and Behrami should be able to unlock the Stoke defence when they put in quality balls into the box.

Roland's prediction: $5 on West Ham -0.5/1 @ 1.940 = $9.70

STOCKPORT vs LEEDS (LEAGUE 1)

leeds haven't won in 5 games in the league, therefore at level ball, they represent outstanding value. i think they will break their bad run of form at stockport, and net us some money.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on leeds level ball @ 1.97 = $9.85

BIRMINGHAM CITY vs SWANSEA CITY (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

birmingham recorded an important away win at portman road on boxing day. important because 1) ipswich is a team commonly referred to as a banana peel for top sides and 2) we tipped it here on thetipsters.blogspot.com, so they had to win. in any case, birmingham must follow that impressive victory with a win over swansea, who have somehow managed to draw their last 7 games. they are unbeaten in 7 games if you like your glass half-full, and they haven't managed a win in their last 8, if you like your glass half-empty. whichever way you look at it though, i believe birmingham have enough to put swansea to the sword.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on birmingham -0.5/1 @ 2.00 = $10.00

VIETNAM vs THAILAND (AFF SUZUKI CUP)

thailand will still be smarting from that smash-and-grab raid by vietnam that leaves them with a 2-1 deficit to overcome. vietnam's strategy worked to perfection as they hit thailand on the counter, making full use of le cong vinh's pace and landing themselves two goals. thailand obviously have the players to overcome the deficit but do they have the mental tenacity? considering they have gone to indonesia and come away with a 1-0 away win, they might not be overly intimidated by the crowd in hanoi. they have to win to have any chance of lifting the cup and i think they will. in good news for them, suchao nutnum is back for them after completing his ban, and i think he will add a bit more thrust to thailand, which is crucial.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on thailand -0.5 @ 1.95 = $19.50

BLACKBURN vs MANCHESTER CITY (EPL)

both teams have seen a slight improvement in form in their last matches. blackburn have put together a two-game unbeaten streak, no thanks to sam allardyce's appointment of course. manchester city, also went some way to erasing the memories of a horrible run by whacking hull 5-1. at level ball, manchester city represents good value, as they are definitely a better footballing side than blackburn. the only worry here is sam allardyce is famed for grinding out results, but i will take the risk and plump for manchester city here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on manchester city level @ 2.02 = $10.10

ARSENAL vs PORTSMOUTH (EPL)

arsenal were lucky, then unlucky, in the draw against title pretenders aston villa. lucky in the sense that they did not concede in the first half when astin villa really made arsenal sweat, and unlucky because they really should have seen the game out at 2-0, but aston villa managed to equalise in the 91st minute, and it wasn't exactly a good goal or anything. zat knight, of all people, just took a chance with his weaker foot and i think he must be surprised that he found the bottom corner with such precision. arsenal have now not won in 3 league games, and i think they should be able to turn it around against a portsmouth team without glen johnson and lassana diarra, who is now a real madrid man. however, they might not clear the 1/1.5 handicap given that pompey will tighten their backline after the mauling by west ham.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on arsenal to win @ 1.40 = $14.00

WEST BROM vs TOTTENHAM (EPL)

west brom have abdoulaye meite and paul robinson missing from their defence tonight, through injury and suspension respectively. leon barnett will replace abdoulaye meite, and that means west brom will realy struggle to contain spurs tonight. leon barnett is a lumbering block of a defender, and i think he will struggle with bent/pavlyuchenko/modric, whoever he's up against, as they are all quick and inventive. i think tottenham can finally end their bad form at the hawthorns and grab the much-needed 3 points. add in a side-bet of tottenham level at half-time, as i don't see them losing at half-time.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on tottenham -0/0.5 @ 1.85 = $9.25
$5 on tottenham level ball at half-time @ 1.70 = $8.50

Agree yet again. Abdoulaye Meite and Paul Robinson missing the match tonight means that West Brom's defence will be easily exposed. I don't fancy Spurs to go 3 matches in the league without a win, so I'm going for Spurs again.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Tottenham -0/0.5 @ 1.85 = $9.25

NEWCASTLE vs LIVERPOOL (EPL)

newcastle had bassong sent off against wigan and i think that severely affects their chances for tonight's game. in the absence of jose enrique, newcastle are likely to be forced to play edgar or n'zogbia there, resulting in a very makeshift defence, which is already missing the impressive habib beye. liverpool have shown how their attack can click even without fernando torres, and i think their good form will continue here to confirm that newcastle's run of form is well and truly over.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on liverpool -0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

Yup. With Bassong out due to a suspension and Beye out injured, Newcastle have defensive selection woes, probably playing N'Zogbia down the left and we all know that he isn't a very good defender, but he's awesome in attack. Newcastle will also be rather toothless in attack as Viduka is now out injured as well, leaving it up to the inexperienced Andy Carroll and the experienced-but-slow Michael Owen to unlock a Liverpool defence, which is rather solid. Liverpool have shown that with Gerrard and Alonso in central midfield, they can pretty much boss a game around and even if Sammy Lee rings the changes by bringing in the likes of Benayoun, I think Liverpool have enough quality to win this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Liverpool -0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

GLASGOW RANGERS vs CELTIC (SCOTTISH PREMIERSHIP)

tonight's old firm derby at ibrox is one of two must-not miss matches in the scottish premier league. the other is the reverse fixture at parkhead, of course. celtic have stuttered a little of late, falling to hibs 2-0 after the mother of all bloopers by artur boruc, and then they were held by hearts. however, i think celtic have enough in them not to lose this game, despite jan vennegoor of hesselink missing through injury. they will also want revenge after being beaten the last time they met.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on celtic +0/0.5 @ 1.95 = $19.50

Thursday, December 25, 2008

WIGAN vs NEWCASTLE (EPL)

Wigan will be very well rested as they did not have a match last weekend. They have performed well and Zaki is slowly regaining his early season form since his injury. Newcastle do not have Martins and Ameobi for this match, meaning that they will play Owen and Viduka upfront, which will be easily handled by Bramble and Scharner.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Wigan -0/0.5 @ 1.950 = $9.75

IPSWICH vs BIRMINGHAM (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

birmingham have lost their last two, somewhat surprisingly to reading at home and preston. at level ball, i think they are a good bet to end their dismal run of form by beating an ipswich side that's also looking low on confidence.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on birmingham level @ 2.01 = $10.05

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS vs ORLANDO MAGIC (NBA)

the hornets, led by the dynamic chris paul fell to the lakers at home in their last game. what was surprising, was the margin of victory, as they looked shell-shocked going into half-time 19 points down. now they're up against an in-form orlando magic, and i think that the hornets have it in them to bring a halt to the magic's outstanding home winning run.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on new orleans +3.5 @ 1.90 = $9.50

ASTON VILLA vs ARSENAL (EPL)

the pick of the matches on boxing day. pretenders aston villa take on arsenal, in their frankly ludicrous bid to challenge for the title. it's like saying arsenal are challenging for the title this season, except arsenal has money to spend if needed, while villa have already spent money on their nice collection of 53 centre-backs. aston villa are on a 6-match unbeaten streak, which includes 4 wins, and draws with fulham and manchester united can be counted as good results as well. surely this run has to end somewhere, as they are frankly, a rather one-dimensional team. everyone knows what they're gonna do. they're gonna punt balls into channels for agbonlahor/milner/young to chase and then score a lucky goal. they were lucky against everton and supremely lucky against west ham. well, luck runs out, just as bad runs will end, so arsenal will beat aston villa.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on arsenal level @ 2.080 = $10.40

MIDDLESBROUGH vs EVERTON (EPL)

middlesbrough are on a 6-match run without winning, while everton will be bouyed by their battling draw at stamford bridge. both teams have quality and are tough opposition on their day, but for middlesbrough, they seem unable to produce that form often enough. everton have been shit at home, and surprisingly, their away form has been saving them this season. however, with boro being at home and at level ball, i think this is a wonderful opportunity to back middlesbrough for the win.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on middlesbrough level @ 1.825 = $9.125

Disagree. Middlesbrough seem to be able to perform well against the big teams. They are a very inconsistent side and their best performer so far, Gary O'Neil, is 50-50 for this match. Everton have been slowly regaining their form and have fared rather well despite having problems with their striker slot. I think Everton will get at least a draw out of this one as they have been rather solid at the back.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Everton level @ 2.075 = $10.375

MANCHESTER CITY vs HULL CITY (EPL)

the most 0ff-form team against a hull city team that should be high on confidence considering they have out-performed themselves this season. however, they are shit. the 4-1 loss to sunderland would have placed doubts in their mind for sure, and if there ever was a chance to end a bad run of form, this is it for man city.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on manchester city -0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

Looks like Robinho will be back for this match. This match will be crucial for Mark Hughes as Man City are 18th and in the relegation zone, and a win here will bring Man City out of the relegation zone. 3 straight losses is not acceptable for a side of Man City's quality and I think they will get a much needed win here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man City -0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

TOTTENHAM vs FULHAM (EPL)

fulham are on a 7-match unbeaten run. this is wrong. roy hodgson has come in and steadied the ship, and they have looked very impressive this season. however, a 7-match unbeaten run is still wrong. tottenham were slightly unlucky to lose the points at st james park, and i think that they will record a win here to pull themselves further away from the relegation zone.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on tottenham -0.5/1 @ 2.00 = $10.00

Agree with Eddy. Fulham's run has been too good, and Spurs haven't had the best of luck the past few games. Heurelho Gomes has improved steadily under Redknapp and Spurs look to be solid at the back with woodgate back. Upfront they have many creative players like Modric and Lennon is showing some great form, so I think Spurs can win this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Tottenham -0.5/1 @ 2.00 = $10.00

Saturday, December 20, 2008

CATANIA vs ROMA (SERIE A)

Roma are definitely the form team heading into this match. Unbeaten for 10 matches running, a win here would launch them up the table and help them salvage something from their terrible start to the season. Catania have never beaten Roma before in their past 6 meetings and I think that the resurgent Roma will be too strong for Catania.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Roma -0.5 @ 1.850 = $9.25

WEST BROM vs MAN CITY (EPL)

Honestly, West Brom have been disappointing all season. They are short on confidence and they haven't been able to perform. Man City have also been disappointing after going 3 matches without a win, leaving them in 17th. Both teams really need the points here, but I fancy Man City's extra quality in their squad to tell here and they will get a win. Robinho is "doubtful" but in the end he'll probably play anyway.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man City -0/0.5 @ 1.960 = $9.80

WEST HAM vs ASTON VILLA (EPL)

Well, Villa just lost 3-1 to Hamburg, but that was a squad without Agbonlahor, Young, Barry, Milner and Laursen. They will be well rested and I think they will beat a mediocre West Ham side easily, especially since they finally broke into 4th and will look to maintain their position there.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Villa -0/0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

BLACKBURN vs STOKE (EPL)

Well, Blackburn are shit and have gone on a 6 game losing streak. Stoke are similarly shitty but have gotten 2 good draws against Fulham and Newcastle. I don't think Stoke's luck will continue as Blackburn will be rejuvenated under their new manager, big Sam, and Blackburn will get a much needed win here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Blackburn -0.5 @ 1.825 = $9.12

Saturday, December 13, 2008

JUVENTUS vs AC MILAN (SERIE A)

Juve have no new injury concerns and have rested Del Piero during the draw against BATE Borisov in midweek. Milan, however, have lost Gattuso to a season long injury, and they have yet to hit top form. I fancy the home advantage to come through for Juventus and they'll claim a victory here to keep pace with Inter, who are 6 points ahead of both Juve and Milan.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Juventus -0/0.5 @ 1.880 = $9.40

NAPOLI vs LECCE (SERIE A)

Napoli have yet to lose at home, while Lecce have not won away from home. They definitely have the better quality and form, as Lecce have gone 10 games without a win. Some runs have to end, but I don't think that Napoli's good run and Lecce's bad run will end here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Napoli -1 @ 1.880 = $9.40

WIGAN vs BLACKBURN (EPL)

Zaki is back from his injury and will totally torment a leaky Blackburn side who have been shipping goals all season. They have conceded a total of 14 Goals their last 5 matches. While Wigan miss Palacios due to suspension, they have a proven backup in Jason Koumas and I don't think the suspension will affect Wigan much. Wigan are strong at the JJB and I think they have a great chance of winning this game.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Wigan -0.5 @ 2.040 = $10.20

SUNDERLAND vs WEST BROM (EPL)

Sunderland welcome back Richardson from suspension and he should provide some attacking threat for Sunderland. West Brom have just lost Ishmael Miller for the rest of the season, so it seems like the odds are favouring Sunderland for this relegation dogfight. However, I think that as Sunderland have had a bad run of results and they only have a temporary coach in place, they will look to not concede to ensure that they get at least a point in front of their home fans. Thus I'm going for West Brom, who have not won in 9 games and are due a win soon.

Roland's prediction: $5 on West Brom +0.5 @ 1.810 = $9.05

STOKE CITY vs FULHAM (EPL)

Looks like Rory Delap is doubtful for this match as he is carrying some arm injury. Good news for Fulham, then, who have strung together a good string of results that have catapulted them to 9th place. Stoke's main threats are Rory Delap's long throws and, with him out, I fancy that Fulham can get something out of this game.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Fulham level ball @ 2.070 = $10.35

Eddy also fancies Fulham to get at least a draw out of this match and recommends the level ball bet.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Fulham level ball @ 2.070 = $10.35

MIDDLESBROUGH vs ARSENAL (EPL)

Eddy feels that Arsenal will win this and recommends the -0.5/1 bet on them.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on Arsenal -0.5/1 @ 2.020 = $10.10

Wednesday, December 10, 2008

PORTO vs ARSENAL (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Everyone will be siding with Porto on this one, as Arsenal will be resting key players such as Fabregas, Adebayor, Van Persie, Sagna, Clichy and Toure. Porto have won their last 6 games, while Arsenal struggled against Wigan and almost lost thanks to Eboue, so Porto look favourites to win this one. However, I think Porto's streak will end as the Arsenal kids will look to improve on a dismal display against Burnley in the Carling Cup where they could not finish with so many clear cut chances, and they will at least get a draw out of this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Arsenal +0/0.5 @ 1.980 = $9.90

agree with roland, except the "dismal" part. the carling cup kids played some wonderful stuff on the day, but were undone by burnley, who were in top form, and finished their few chances. arsenal created more than 5 clear-cut opportunities, and had bendtner showed the finishing of ian wright, we'd have won by a clear margin, and that's no exaggeration. porto might be strong at home, but they are probably only slightly better than arsenal's reserves. i think arsenal definitely have enough in them to at least get a draw, so i'm backing them.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on arsenal +0/0.5 @ 1.98 = $9.90

REAL MADRID vs ZENIT ST PETERSBURG (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Real have had a shit run and have had very bad form, their most recent 3-4 loss to Sevilla at home resulting in Schuster getting the sack. They have a long list of injuries with the likes of Ruud, Sneijder, Pepe, Heinze (cunt), Miguel Torres and Ruben de la Red all out. However, Zenit have shown that they are not capable of finishing chances off at all in their games in the Champions League. I think that Real Madrid players will have the new manager syndrome and the players will be very motivated for this match to impress their new coach, Juande Ramos, and he'll get off to a winning start before their crunch match against league rivals Barcelona. After all, Ramos is great in cup competitions and well respected in the La Liga.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Real Madrid -0/0.5 @ 1.900 = $9.50

Tuesday, December 9, 2008

CHELSEA vs CLUJ (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

scolari has said that he will return to brazil if chelsea don't win. big boast there, considering cluj have shown that they can play well in short spells. once again, there's a 2-goal handicap, and i really do not believe that chelsea's home form will lead them to a 3-goal victory over cluj, who will be defending their lives off. if i assembled a team of plumbers and grave-diggers, i'd be confident that we'd go to stamford bridge and come away with something, such is their poor form. if i'm wrong about this, i'll return to erm...singapore?

Eddy's prediction: $5 on cluj +2 @ 1.96 = $9.80

ROMA vs BORDEAUX (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

roma go into this game needing only a draw, and bordeaux need a win. yet bordeaux are listed as +0.5/1. fantastic handicap for a team i fancy to be only marginally lousier than roma. roma have cleared the asian handicap in their last 5 games, while bordeaux have not, on 2 consecutive occasions. it all points to a bordeaux victory on the handicap, and i think yohan gourcuff will lead his men out at stadio olimpico to ensure we win our bets.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on bordeaux +0.5/1 @ 2.00 = $20.00

INDONESIA vs SINGAPORE (AFF SUZUKI CUP)

in a rather meaningless match, indonesia take on singapore to complete group a's fixtures. indonesia will have the passionate support of thousands of fans at the senayan, while singapore are likely to rest players due to their safe passage through to the semi-finals. however, i fancy singapore will at least get a draw, which will ensure they do not face thailand in the semis.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on singapore +0/0.5 @ 1.78 = $8.90

Monday, December 8, 2008

AMIENS vs STRASBOURG (LIGUE TWO)

strasbourg have seen their title hopes fade a little after losses to metz and guingamp. however, those two are teams that can turn it on on their day and beat all sorts of opposition, so you shouldn't be deceived by that. strasbourg haven't won in two, amiens haven't lost in two, and so i think strasbourg level is the way to go.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on strasbourg level @ 1.90 = $9.50

Sunday, December 7, 2008

SINGAPORE vs MYANMAR (SUZUKI CUP)

i think singapore should have no problems defeating myanmar tonight, but the only doubt is whether they can do enough to clear the -1/1.5 margin. i think that might be rather risky, and as such, i think sticking to the low odds for this one should be the way to go.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on singapore to win @ 1.35 = $13.50

FEYENOORD vs DE GRAAFSCHAP (EREDIVISIE)

de graafschap are really sucky, and they look like they're definitely going down this season. However, it's fair to say that feyenoord have under-achieved in spectacular fashion this season. touted to be among the top 4, they now languish in a lowly 11th spot. they are honestly, not a very good side, and with key players the wrong side of 30 (makaay and van bronckhorst), they tend to look sluggish at times. de graafschap may suck, but i think a 2-goal start is generous, considering feyenoord are not the best of attackers themselves.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on de graafschap +2 @ 1.92 = $9.60

NEWCASTLE JETS vs SYDNEY FC (A-LEAGUE)

newcastle jets find themselves rooted to the bottom after a dismal run of 5 matches where they managed to pick up just 2 points. sydney are also stuck in a bit of a poor run, their last win coming way back in october. however, i fancy that in the battle of teams with low confidence, then squad quality comes into play, and i think sydney will edge this one.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on sydney level @ 1.95 = $9.75

Saturday, December 6, 2008

WEST HAM vs TOTTENHAM (EPL)

i think tottenham have way too much quality for west ham to handle. west ham have had a good run of sorts, but i don't see them winning spurs. they still miss dean ashton and kieron dyer, and i think tottenham will be even more motivated for this one as they lost the last game at home.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on tottenham level @ 1.95 = $19.50

NANTES vs LYON (LIGUE ONE)

i think lyon are a terrific bet to win this one. they haven't won in 2 games in the league, and that represents a slump for a side the class of lyon. nantes have been poor all season, and i really don't see much of a problem for lyon to win here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on lyon -0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

CAEN vs RENNES (LIGUE ONE)

rennes have been proving themselves to be worthy challengers to lyon's crown this season. marseille were touted as favourites to challenge lyon, but they seem to lack the mental toughness required to keep up with a team like lyon. rennes have been in smashing form, and i think level ball is a good bet for them against caen, who haven't been much good of late.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on rennes level ball @ 1.90 = $9.50

CAGLIARI vs PALERMO (SERIE A)

palermo have a good team, but have not done very well in recent matches, up until the 3-1 victory over ac milan. i expect them to be able to bring their confidence to cagliari, who have over-achieved in recent games, where they are currently on a 3-match unbeaten streak. they are also damn strong at home, beating teams like fiorentina, bologna, and sampdoria in recent matches. however, i think palermo's stronger squad will break their proud home record.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on palermo level @ 2.075 = $10.375

HULL CITY vs MIDDLESBROUGH (EPL)

hull have done very well since coming up, and it's all down to good tactics and a few good players here and there, like daniel cousin and kamil zayatte. i emphasise "few". i believe that at the end of the day, the quality of players in the squad will decide matches more than good management and tactics. for all the knocking of the galacticos of real madrid, they did deliver at times, simply because their players were too good. middlesbrough have a very good squad, and should have no problems whatsoever dealing with what hull city can throw at them. however, they are inconsistent, and that's the only thing bad about boro. i still think they'll at least get a draw here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on middlesbrough +0/0.5 @ 1.82 = $9.10

DERBY COUNTY vs CRYSTAL PALACE (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

derby county are a good team, but they find themselves in the wrong half of the coca-cola championship, as they have suffered from injuries to key members in their squad. tonight, they absolutely have to win, as they face crystal palace, a mediocre side who have over-achieved in their recent games. derby have not won in 3 league games, while crystal palace haven't lost in 3. it seems fairly straightforward that derby have to get back on track tonight, and i fancy them to win this one, and i definitely don't see them losing, so level ball is a rather good bet tonight.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on derby county level @ 1.775 = $17.75

ALBIREX NIIGATA vs GAMBA OSAKA (J-LEAGUE)

albirex niigata could drop a division today, if they lose at home to gamba osaka, and other results don't go their way. gamba osaka have nothing to play for. as such, i'm backing albirex niigata to put on a performance of their lives to keep their j-league status, and i do not see them losing at home. besides, they haven't won in 4 matches, and the run has to end somewhere. now's the best time.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on albirex niigata level @ 1.925 = $9.625

NAPOLI vs SIENA (SERIE A)

Napoli are still unbeaten at home and they should be too strong for a mediocre Siena side. Furthermore, they have had 2 losses and a draw in their last 3 games, something that they will look to change once they return to San Paolo.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Napoli -0.5/1 @ 1.825 = $9.12

CHIEVO vs ROMA (SERIE A)

The return of talisman Totti has seen Roma go on a 4 game win streak, beating the likes of Lazio and Fiorentina. Chievo, on the other hand, overturned a 6 straight losses streak with a win over overachieving Udinese. Coming into this game, both sides will need the points as Roma currently lay 14th - 16 points behind leaders Inter - and Chievo are bottom at 20th and need the points to escape relegation. However, Roma have been playing very well and are probably the more confident of the two and should be able to edge it by a goal.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Roma -0.5/1 @ 2.020 = $10.10

MAN UTD vs SUNDERLAND (EPL)

Sunderland are in trouble. Their strikers are misfiring, their defence is very leaky and their manager just walked out on them. Manchester United, on the other hand, have selection problems because Tevez just scored a hat-trick in midweek in a bid to claim the first team place. Kieran Richardson's absence removes a very attacking threat from Sunderland's lineup and I don't see them getting a result from this, especially with all their unsettling off the pitch problems.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man Utd -2 @ 1.800 = $9.00

well well well. once again we see a very one-sided betting pattern when it comes to manu. everyone in the world favours manu, and with good reason. they are a fantastic attacking side with a solid defence to boot. however, sunderland are not as bad as their losing run suggests. on paper, they look rather good. it's just the fact that roy keane lost the dressing room and the respect of the players, which made it very difficult for them to find any sort of consistency at all. kenwyne jones and djibril cisse will cause no end of problems for the united defence if they can click together up front, and overall, i see the 2-goal start they get as very attractive as i really do not think they will be hammered. they have been written off on all fronts, and imagine how pissed off you'll be if you were a player there and noone gave you a chance at even getting a point at old trafford. it's incredible that in such a tight league, anyone is given a two-goal start, so i'll lap this one up with joy.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on sunderland +2 @ 2.10 = $10.50

NEWCASTLE vs STOKE CITY (EPL)

Newcastle are a rejuvenated side as they seek to distance themselves from the relegation zone. Joe Kinnear has seen his contract extended till the end of the season and they seem to have sorted out all their problems (temporarily). Stoke are a shit squad and they do not have Kitson coming into this match, so I think Newcastle will win this one easily.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Newcastle -0.5/1 @ 1.975 = $9.87

FULHAM vs MAN CITY (EPL)

Fulham have been enjoying a great run of late, winning 2 games at home before drawing 2 away games to Liverpool and Aston Villa. This run is too good for a side of their quality, and being a home game, they will be forced to attack instead of parking the bus like they did against Villa and Liverpoo. City will win this one as they can counterattack well and it looks like Robinho is back. Level ball on City looks like a good bet to me.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man City level ball @ 1.980 = $9.90

too right. manchester city look a safe bet on level ball, as fulham have rather over-achieved, in my opinion. they are a good team, with great form, holding teams like liverpool and aston villa to 0-0 draws. that is by no means easy, but i feel that man city's form hasn't been good of late and i fancy them to turn the corner here. besides, robinho, micah richards, and shaun wright-phillips are listed as "doubtful". but you don't really expect me to believe that eh? haha. in fact, that strengthens my belief that all 3 will play, and lead man city to victory.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on Man City level ball @ 1.980 = $9.90

MULTIPLIER OF THE DAY

VVV Venlo v MVV Maastricht (vvv venlo win @ 1.44)
Aston Villa v MSK Zilina (zilina +1/1.5 @ 2.00)
Valencia v Club Brugge (valencia win @ 1.44)
Wolfsburg v Portsmouth (portsmouth +0.5 @ 1.825)

$5 on above multiplier = $38.05

ADELAIDE UTD vs WELLINGTON PHOENIX (A-LEAGUE)

wellington phoenix have somehow managed to win 3 in a row, so i guess their run has to end somewhere. adelaide united slipped up in their previous game, but i see them returning to normal form here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on adelaide united -0.5/1 @ 1.89 = $9.45

VVV VENLO vs MVV MAASTRICHT (DUTCH EERSTE DIVISIE)

vvv venlo are top of the table, and they defeated fortuna sittard last time out, to resume normal service in the league, after a surprise 3-2 defeat at the hands of helmond sport, who are over-achieving this year, and may actually find themselves back in the eredivisie next season. slight digression there, but anyway back to this match, i think mvv maastricht will not be able to go 3 matches undefeated, and that's why i'm backing vvv venlo to record back-to-back wins and defeat mvv.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on vvv venlo -1 @ 1.800 = $9.00

Tuesday, December 2, 2008

BURNLEY vs ARSENAL (LEAGUE CUP)

arsenal will of course, field their youngsters in tonight's game against burnley. however, it's fair to say that their youngsters are more than a match for any team in the country, as they easily whacked sheffield united 6-0 and then made light work of a first-choice wigan side 3-0. they play with confidence, and the fact that this is the only chance they get to play competitive football means that not only are they better than burnley on paper, they will also be mentally geared to kick on to the semi-finals. this is why i think that arsenal are worth backing tonight, and i fancy them to beat burnley, who will undoubtedly try to make it tough for arsenal at turf moor.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on arsenal -0.5/1 @ 1.96 = $9.80

Read above. I would fear if it were the Arsenal first team that plays because as we've seen after their inspired win against Manchester United, they might become overconfident and expect to trounce Burnley without breaking a sweat. However, the young ones will play, and they will be itching to prove their worth and challenge for a first team spot, so I think Arsenal should win this one without any problems at all.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Arsenal -0.5/1 @ 1.96 = $9.80

MULTIPLIER OF THE DAY

lens vs sedan (lens -0.5/1 @ 1.75)
banik ostrava v jablonec (banik ostrava win @ 1.50)
reading v coventry (reading -1 @ 1.85)

$5 pays $24.28

READING vs COVENTRY (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

reading have not won in two games already, losing surprisingly at home to southampton, and then following it up with a draw at cardiff. bikey was sent off in that game, so michael duberry will replace him. i think reading have too much quality for coventry to handle, and should be able to win this one.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on reading to win @ 1.50 = $7.50

LIVERPOOL vs WEST HAM (EPL)

this is a tough match-up to predict as you just don't know which pool side will show up, the one that struggled to a draw with stoke city, or the one that convincingly beat manchester united and chelsea. west ham too, are highly inconsistent. what i do know is that both teams have been short on goals recently, and with torres out, i think punters will be expecting goals to be in short supply. however, i feel that runs will have to end, and i see there being goals tonight.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on over 2.5 goals @ 1.85 = $9.25

Sunday, November 30, 2008

HISTON vs LEEDS UTD (FA CUP)

i've never heard of histon before. they are a conference national side, and they are flying in their league, scoring goals for fun and racking up top spot. leeds utd, on the other hand, are 7th in league one, and are a little inconsistent. however, jermaine beckford is in hot form, scoring 6 in his last 3 games, and i think that leeds have too much proven quality to slip up at histon.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on leeds utd -0.5/1 @ 1.80 = $9.00

ATALANTA vs LAZIO (SERIE A)

stefan radu and cristian ledesma return for lazio against atalanta, who will also have christian vieri back for selection. lazio have gone off the boil recently, losing to roma, and then managing a home draw with genoa. however, those two teams are quality, something that atalanta lack. i think lazio getting a start on the market is highly generous, and should definitely be taken.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on lazio +0/0.5 @ 1.70 = $8.50

CHELSEA vs ARSENAL (BPL)

chelsea might miss joe cole for this one, as he sustained an injury in bordeaux. definitely missing out is didier drogba, and long-term absentee michael essien. this is important, as i feel the only players stopping arsenal from winning chelsea were drogba and essien. especially drogba. drogba has single-handedly won chelsea games against arsenal numerous times, and his suspension means that arsenal now have the best chance of grabbing at least a point off chelsea. nasri, adebayor, and sagna might be back, so it's all looking good for arsenal, and i think that they won't lose at stamford bridge.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on arsenal +0.5/1 @ 1.83 = $18.30

MANCHESTER CITY vs MANCHESTER UNITED (BPL)

one of two absolute blockbuster games tonight sees the new-look manchester city try and prove themselves against the big boys from the other half of manchester. berbatov's return means united will probably be more inventive, unlike in recent games where they looked rather devoid of ideas, not a criticism usually levelled at united. manchester city have already won 2 on the trot, and have looked rather impressive, but it's unlikely they'll win 3 on the trot, and i just think that united will want this win more than city, after losing both derbies last season.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on manchester united -0.5 @ 1.91 = $9.55

NEWCASTLE JETS vs ADELAIDE UNITED (A-LEAGUE)

newcastle jets are rock bottom of the a-league and now they face high-flying adelaide united. they haven't won in 4 games, but i don't see that changing as the gulf in quality is all too obvious. cassio and sarkies are no match for anything the newcastle jets can put up, so i think adelaide will add to their only away win all season in newcastle.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on adelaide united -0/0.5 @ 1.950 = $9.75

Saturday, November 29, 2008

HERACLES ALMELO vs WILLEM II (DUTCH EREDIVISIE)

heracles are a shit team. willem ii are actually quite good, and they will be confident after defeating fc groningen convincingly 3-0 last weekend. they will be looking to extend their winning run, and i think that the least they will do here is get a draw.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on willem ii +0/0.5 @ 1.85 = $9.25

SEVILLA vs FC BARCELONA (LA LIGA)

barcelona banished the memories of a disappointing 1-1 home draw with getafe emphatically in midweek, thrashing sporting lisbon 5-2 in lisbon. they will look to bring the form to seville to continue getting 3 points after real madrid closed the gap to 3 points last weekend. with messi back in the side, and jesus navas sitting out through suspension, i fancy barcelona to have enough in them to grab an away win.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on barcelona -0/0.5 @ 1.80 = $9.00

GETAFE vs REAL MADRID (LA LIGA)

on a weekend of derbies, bernd schuster leads his madrid side to his former club getafe in search of 3 points which are vital if they are to catch leaders barcelona. real madrid are without ruud van nistelrooy and gonzalo higuain, so a win is by no means certain. recent games involving either getafe or real madrid have all been low-scoring, but i think this has the potential to be a high-scoring game because it's a derby.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on over 2.5 goals @ 2.00 = $10.00

FC SOCHAUX vs BORDEAUX (LIGUE ONE)

bordeaux are a good team, and they showed that when they outplayed chelsea for 90 minutes in midweek and were rather unlucky to have come out of the game with only 1 point. they face sochaux, who are struggling in ligue one, and i think bordeaux will finally get their title challenge back on track after two winless games in the league.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on bordeaux -0/0.5 @ 1.92 = $9.60

BAYER LEVERKUSEN vs BAYERN MUNICH (BUNDESLIGA)

i think bayern munich have been in too good form of late to lose this one, despite bayer leverkusen being at home. toni, klose and ribery have struck up a very good understanding, and i think they should have enough to see off leverkusen and condemn them to a second straight defeat.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on bayern munich level @ 1.83 = $9.15

SUNDERLAND vs BOLTON (BPL)

sunderland have been in poor form of late, with their 2-1 win against blackburn being the only win in 4 games. however, they have been unlucky on more than one occasion, and with the quality in their squad, i think they are due another win. chimbonda and diouf come back from injury, which is good news for sunderland fans. bolton have over-achieved, and i expect normal service to be resumed here, with sunderland grabbing a vital victory.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on sunderland -0/0.5 @ 2.00 = $10.00

BURNLEY vs DERBY COUNTY (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

derby county have been unlucky of late, not picking up points when they deserve to. their 2-2 draw with preston was achieved without their first-choice defence, and still they looked like claiming all 3 points. they travel to burnley with james tomkins on a one-month loan, and he should help to ease the defensive woes of late. also, luke varney has been added to the squad, and i think derby have it in them to at least secure a point away from home.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on derby +0.5 @ 1.920 = $9.60

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS vs BIRMINGHAM CITY (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

wolves have won their last 7 games in a row. they're no manchester united or chelsea, so for them to have such an impressive run is most improbable. they come up against birmingham, who themselves need a win to stay in touch with wolves, as the gap currently stands at 6 points. i really do not think wolves will be able to win this one, as i see birmingham getting at least a draw from this.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on birmingham + 0/0.5 @ 1.925 = $9.625

KASHIMA ANTLERS vs JUBILO IWATA (J-LEAGUE)

kashima antlers currently sit pretty at the top of the standings after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over oita trinita last time out. if they beat jubilo, and other results go their way, they might even secure the title today. jubilo look to have gone off the boil a little in recent games, and i think the antlers will be too strong at home for jubilo.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on kashima antlers -0.5/1 @ 1.80 = $9.00

KASHIWA REYSOL vs OITA TRINITA (J-LEAGUE)

oita trinita have failed to win in their last 3 games, a shocking fact considering that they had a good shot at winning the title. mathematically, they're still in with a chance, but they face kashiwa reysol, who are rather strong at home. i think oita will want to finish the season on a high, and with ueslei and maeda doing quite well in attack this season, i think they have a good chance of securing at least a draw here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on oita trinita level ball @ 1.875 = $9.375

MULTIPLIER OF THE WEEK

Valencia (-0.5) @ 1.810
La Coruna (0.5) @ 1.780
Roma (-0.5) @ 1.920
Arsenal (0.5/1) @ 1.830

Roland's Multiplier: $5 pays $56.60

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs EVERTON (EPL)

Ledley King and Woodgate have been rested and will return for this match. Jenas will also come back into the starting lineup. Corluka and Pavlyuchenko will be raring to go as they were cup-tied for the UEFA Cup game on Thursday. For Everton, they have a striker problem with Saha, Anichebe and Vaughan out, and Pienaar is also unavailable. I think Everton's squad will be stretched and they won't be able to compete against the resurgent Spurs.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Tottenham -0.5 @ 1.990 = $9.95

PORTSMOUTH vs BLACKBURN (EPL)

Cool fact, Blackburn have won their last 2 games at Fratton Park. I don't think they have enough quality to do so a 3rd time, especially with Defoe and Kranjcar back in contention. Portsmouth come into this game probably a little more fatigued than Blackburn after their morale boosting 2-2 draw against Milan (argh Inzaghi why did you have to hit the post thrice), but I think that they will be more up for this game than the Blackburn players and Tony Adams will record his second win as manager of Portsmouth.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Portsmouth -0.5 @ 2.110 = $10.55

MIDDLESBROUGH vs NEWCASTLE (EPL)

I tend to stay clear of Middlesbrough matches because they always win/lose when you least expect it. However, I think the chances of Newcastle clinching at least a point here are high as Newcastle continue their revival under Joe Kinnear. They showed great heart to get a draw at Stamford Bridge and have shown that they can defend well. Middlesbrough have been rather disappointing and I think Newcastle will grab a point off them.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Newcastle +0/0.5 @ 2.020 = $10.10

the punters seem to be favouring newcastle for this one, as they played well at stamford bridge and managed to come away with a clean sheet. however, let's not forget that it wasn't unexpected, as chelsea have been shit of late, and in any case, are no great team to start off with themselves. besides, newcastle are gonna miss damien duff and shola ameobi, and middlesbrough will be boosted by the return of mido, who is very useful on big occasions. this being the tyne-tee derby, i expect sparks to fly with the most likely victors being middlesbrough.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on middlesbrough -0/0.5 @ 1.95 = $9.75

WIGAN vs WEST BROM (EPL)

Well, West Brom are on a terrible run of results at the moment, losing to Liverpool, Chelsea, then Stoke. They definitely did not deserve to lose their last game, but that's football. They look to be short on confidence and I think Wigan will edge this one, as West Brom have only scored twice away from home in the EPL all season.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Wigan -0.5 @ 1.775 = $8.875

MULTIPLIER OF THE DAY

MVV Maastricht v RKC Waalwijk (Waalwijk level @ 1.75)

MVV MAASTRICHT vs RKC WAALWIJK (DUTCH EERSTE DIVISIE)

rkc waalwijk are a quality team that have gone 4 games without a win. yep, u know what i'm gonna say. take waalwijk on level ball, as i don't see them losing this one.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on rkc waalwijk level @ 1.75 = $8.75

HAMBURG vs AJAX (UEFA CUP)

Both sides have been doing well in their domestic leagues. Both sides should be evenly matched, so in games like this I always go for the home team. Furthermore, Ajax have lots of injuries like Huntelaar, Stekelenberg and Aissati, and thus I think Hamburg will nick this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Hamburg -0.5 @ 1.800 = $9.00

NEC NIJMEGEN vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (UEFA CUP)

Well, Woodgate and King are rested, while Corluka is cup-tied and Hutton is out. Spells trouble for the Spurs back 4. For their attack, Luka Modric and Giovani dos Santos are injured, while Pavlyuchenko is cup-tied. Spells trouble for their attack too, as Luka Modric has been a key player for them with his creativity. The heavy boat will be in NEC grabbing at least a point at home, so I'm backing Spurs as they do have decent strength in depth. Zokora will be an able deputy at the back and Huddlestone + Jenas are capable of running the midfield with Bentley delivering good crosses for Campbell and Bent. Well, that's the ideal situation as I'm backing Spurs to get a crucial win here to keep their UEFA Cup hopes alive.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Spurs -0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

SCHALKE vs MAN CITY (UEFA CUP)

Robinho isn't included in the travelling squad as he has an ankle injury, and I hope that he remains injured till the Manchester derby is over. Elano is also left out of the squad, and so is Zabaleta. That's a lot of creative talent gone and I don't see a strike force of Jo and Benjani being able to step up. I think that fatigue will set in for City and Mark Hughes will probably tell them to play a low tempo game so that they can conserve their energy for the Manchester derby over the weekend. I quote ""If we take a point off Schalke and maybe get another win at home next week (against Paris St Germain) then maybe seven points will be enough,'' Hughes said", so it will be Schalke's game as City can't defend well away from home, and Schalke need to win to definitely qualify for the next round.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Schalke -0.5 @ 1.990 = $9.95

PORTSMOUTH vs AC MILAN (UEFA CUP)

Pompey don't have Diarra, Defoe, Kranjcar, and Campbell heading into this match. Milan are top of the table and will probably rest some players, but I think their reserves team will go into this match hungry to prove their worth and will probably beat a toothless Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Tony Adams still hasn't proven that he is capable of managing a top flight club and I think Milan is good to back here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Milan -0/0.5 @ 1.960 = $9.80

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

ANORTHOSIS FAMAGUSTA vs WERDER BREMEN (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Anorthosis have been the surprise package in the Champions League, holding Inter to a 3-3 draw at home and only losing 1-0 away. They are strong at home, whereas Bremen have been disappointing all season and sit in 9th in the Bundesliga. I fancy Anorthosis to hold Bremen at bay and secure at least a point this match in a bid to reach the knockout stages.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Anorthosis +0.5 @ 1.860 = $9.30

CFR CLUJ vs ROMA (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Roma have gotten their season back on track after their convincing win in the Rome derby, then a resounding 3-0 win away against Lecce. They will be smelling blood and will get their revenge against Cluj, who have shown in their loss to Bordeaux that they are just an average side.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Roma -0.5 @ 1.910 = $9.55

Tuesday, November 25, 2008

BAYERN MUNICH vs STEAUA BUCHAREST (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Bayern should have too much quality for Steaua, especially at home. A win would secure their place in the knockout stages. Steaua have had a shit run of results and I think a Bayern win here is guaranteed.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Bayern -1.5 @ 1.990 = $9.95

ZENIT ST PETERSBURG vs JUVENTUS (UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE)

Zenit have finished 5th in their domestic league, meaning that they will not qualify for the Champions League next season. They have nothing else to play for other than their last 2 matches, which are against Juve and Real, and they need to win both to qualify. Juve just had their 7 game win streak ended by painfully by Inter in a match where they did NOTHING at all (and I made money from ^^), and Ranieri will probably rest players for this match. I think the home environment will work wonders for Zenit and they will win this one.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Zenit -0.5 @ 1.860 = $9.30

Sunday, November 23, 2008

ELCHE vs SALAMANCA (SPANISH LIGA BBVA)

salamanca are flying at the moment, 2nd in the table with a game in hand. on the other hand, elche managed a crucial win over sevilla's B team last weekend, to give them a little breathing space at the bottom. salamanca, though, have far too much quality to lose against elche, and as such, level ball looks like a good tip to me.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on salamanca level @ 2.050 = $10.25

NUMANCIA vs ATLETICO MADRID (LA LIGA)

numancia and atletico both secured morale-boosting wins last weekend, and will look to bring the form to tonight's match. atletico haven't won back-to-back games for a while now, but i feel that numancia will be unable to stop atletico from playing their usual high-tempo attacking game. my tip is for atletico to win this one.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on atletico -0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

KYOTO PURPLE SANGA vs NAGOYA GRAMPUS EIGHT (J LEAGUE)

nagoya remain in 3rd place and with a shot at the title still, despite a bad run of 6 games which has seen 5 draws and a loss. however, i think the time is finally right for nagoya to show everyone what they're made of, and for frode johnsen to stop brooding, and start producing. nagoya to win this.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on nagoya grampus eight -0/0.5 @ 1.95 = $9.75

Saturday, November 22, 2008

PORTSMOUTH vs HULL (EPL)

portsmouth take on hull at fratton park, with hull facing some tough times in recent weeks. the draw with man city would have restored some confidence, but i think portsmouth have too much quality for hull. daniel cousin is a major doubt, and dean windass might take his place. i'm sure he'll look out of place against the imposing centre-backs of portsmouth.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on portsmouth -0.5 @ 1.95 = $9.75

SEVILLA vs VALENCIA (LA LIGA)

The 5th placed hosting the 3rd placed team, an exact parallel of our Aston Villa vs United matchup. Sevilla have some injury problems but they also do have in-form striker Luis Fabiano, who just banged in a hattrick against Portugal. Valencia are also a team who can score goals, with David Villa still in fine goalscoring form. I think it's hard to call who's going to win this match because it could go either way, so I think i'll go for over 2.5 goals as these clubs just do not do 1-0 wins.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Over 2.5 @ 1.90 = $9.50

TOTTENHAM vs BLACKBURN (EPL)

Blackburn are shit, whereas Spurs aren't. Paul Ince is a newbie without much experience. Redknapp is a veteran in the Premier League and has worked a miracle at Portsmouth and now is resurrecting Spurs' campaign with his magic. Okay, no, it's not magic it's just common sense and proper man management which Ramos lacked, but nevermind. Spurs might be the heavy boat for this one, so beware, but I'm gonna go for Spurs anyway.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Tottenham -0.5 @ 1.790 = $8.95

MAN CITY vs ARSENAL (EPL)

Logic says Man Shitty will win as they haven't won in 4 games. They are strong at home and welcome back Richard Dunne, who has been voted best City player 3 years running, so that's how much he means to the club. Robinho Elano and co return after beating Portugal 6-2, with Elano even bagging a goal, which means they'll be raring to go for this match. Arsenal, on the other hand, slumped 2-0 to Villa last week and have just dropped Gallas and stripped him of his captaincy - it's a team with many problems in its squad that can't be addressed overnight. Toure is doubtful and Gallas is dropped so it's going to be Silvestre and Djourou in the centre.. hardly a defensive partnership worth mentioning. Walcott is also out for this match, so I really think that Arsenal can get at most a draw from this match, which means Man Shitty on the handicap.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man City +0/0.5 @ 2.00 = $10.00

man city is the heavy boat going into this game, and that is really tempting me to put some on arsenal. arsenal have finally dropped gallas, and i'm sure silvestre and djourou will make a far better partnership, both of them aggressive in the air, and fairly quick on the deck as well. besides, walcott and eboue injured opens the door for the impressive aaron ramsey, or maybe even wilshere. the youngsters will be eager to impress, and should have enough quality to trouble a porous man city defence. besides, city like to play an attacking game, which suits arsenal. i think the worst arsenal will do here is a draw.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on arsenal -0/0.5 @ 2.020 = $10.10

ASTON VILLA vs MANCHESTER UNITED (EPL)

This will be a great football match. Why? Because the last time these 2 clubs met in the Premier League, United scored 4 goals, extending their winning streak over Villa to 13 consecutive games. Logic tells me that one should be wary because Villa are good - Agbonlahor's on form, they just beat Arsenal etc. - and United's defence hasn't been as rock solid as previous seasons due to the loss of Carlos Queiroz (who just lost 6-2, hah! come back because you fail as a manager). However, I think that United will still win this even without Berbatov, and I predict that Tevez will turn in a MOM performance as he is desperate to prove his worth to the team.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man Utd -0.5/1 @ 2.075 = $10.375

SUNDERLAND vs WEST HAM (EPL)

Sunderland recently arrested a 4 game losing streak and beat Blackburn away from home last week, and I expect them to win again here. Kenwyne Jones and Djibril Cisse look like they can form a formidable partnership, epitomising the big forward - small(er) pacey forward combination. West Ham just haven't been good enough and have not won in the past 7 games, so one should be wary when betting on Sunderland, but I think that as long as Mark Noble and Dean Ashton are still sidelined, West Ham's problems won't ease and their winless run will continue.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Sunderland -0/0.5 @ 1.900 = $9.50

DENVER NUGGETS vs LA LAKERS (NBA)

the nuggets travel to the staples center in a bid to snap a long losing streak there. the lakers have beaten them on eight previous occasions consecutively, and are heavy favourites to win tonight. however, denver nuggets have looked a better outfit since the trade which sent allen iverson to the pistons. in return, they acquired chauncey billups, and i think that with his winning mentality and defensive mindset, this has really strengthened the nuggets. kobe bryant has not had much game time recently, as he is being rested once the lakers build up a strong lead. i fancy the lakers needing him in the fourth quarter for this one, as i think the nuggets will push them all the way.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on denver nuggets +8 @ 1.90 = $9.50

CHELSEA vs NEWCASTLE (EPL)

newcastle have not won in two games, after an impressive start for joe kinnear. chelsea, on the other hand, are flying at the top of the table, and look very impressive. they have recorded 7 away wins on the trot, and should they be able to bring their away form home, this would be a no-brainer. however, this one's at stamford bridge, and as much as i can see newcastle getting pummelled, i can also see newcastle really pushing chelsea all the way here. newcastle did it to man u on the first day of the season, and there's no reason to doubt their ability to do likewise against an injury-ravaged chelsea. the loss of carvalho and alex will lead to opportunities for the likes of martins and owen. also, the portuguese players returned late, and fatigue should be considered a factor here. bosingwa and deco have made good starts to their chelsea career, and if the two of them don't reach their usual high standards, then chelsea might struggle.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on newcastle +1.5/2 @ 1.97 = $9.85

STOKE CITY vs WEST BROMWICH ALBION (EPL)

stoke city have a good home record, winning 4 out of their 6 home games, including a gritty win over mighty arsenal where rory delap showcased his throwing ability. west brom, on the other hand, have only won once away from home, and are rock bottom in the premier league. they have lost 5 in their last 6 games, and if they do not buck up soon, they will be staring at a return to the championship. i fancy west brom to have it in them to at least get a draw in this relegation six-pointer, considering that stoke's top-scorer ricardo fuller is suspended for the game.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on west brom +0/0.5 @ 1.975 = $9.875

West Brom have had a bad run, and it ends here. They are probably short on confidence after losing back to back against Liverpool and Chelsea, but I think that they have enough quality to play out a draw here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on West Brom +0/0.5 @ 1.975 = $9.875

SWANSEA vs BIRMINGHAM (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

birmingham finally got a win last week, after 3 games without one. their players came through the international break unscathed, and they need the points in a bid to catch wolves at the top. i fancy them to have enough quality to get at least a point here, so level ball's a good option.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on birmingham level @ 2.075 = $10.375

SAUDI ARABIA vs KOREA (WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS - ASIA)

Eddy feels that Korea stand a chance of getting at least a point from Saudi Arabia.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on Korea +0/0.5 @ 1.875 = $9.38

GERMANY vs ENGLAND (INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY)

Well, I hate to bet on friendlies. Results often don't go the way you expect them to go, and upsets happen everywhere. Everything points to Germany for this match - Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Wes Brown, Joe Hart, Emile Heskey, and the latest injury Theo Walcott are all out for England. I fancy the second stringers, like Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Agbonlahor etc. to play their hearts out in a push for the starting line up and hopefully do well enough to get a result.

Roland's prediction: $5 on England +0/0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

BAHRAIN vs AUSTRALIA (WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS - ASIA)

Quick tip here. Both teams have many injury concerns, but the advantage goes to Australia even though they're away as Bahrain has been very leaky at the back. They have lost 3 and drawn 1 in their last 4 games, conceding a total of 10 goals in the process. I think Australia has enough quality to see Bahrain off, even with Vince Grella and Brett Emerton out.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Australia -0.5 @ 1.850 = $9.25

EVERTON vs MIDDLESBROUGH (EPL)

everton are a team on fire. after the draw with manchester united, they have won their last 3, beating bolton, fulham and west ham. in team news, they welcome fellaini and yakubu back, which should strengthen everton for this game. middlesbrough have proven to be highly unpredictable this season, and with punters favouring everton for this one, i think boro have a good shot. everton have a shit record at goodison park this season, and i just think boro have it in them to at least sneak a point.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on middlesbrough +0.5 @ 2.00 = $10.00

ATLETICO MADRID vs DEPORTIVO LA CORUNA (LA LIGA)

atletico should win this one, considering they are at home, but they face a resurgent deportivo side who have won their last two. as such, im staying clear of them as they are rather inconsistent. capable of dishing out footballing lessons to other teams, they are also vulnerable to unexpected losses, much like my beloved arsenal. however, with their last 5 games producing less than 2.5 goals (under), i think it's worth a shot going for this game to produce 3 or more goals. atletico are definitely able to create chances, and with a leaky defence, deportivo might get in on the act as well.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on over 2.5 goals @ 2.00 = $10.00

SHEFFIELD UNITED vs READING (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

reading are in good form currently, and look like strong promotion contenders this season. last week, they managed to whack derby 3-0, which is quite a feat, considering that derby are quite strong this season. against sheffield united, who have won two in a row, i see reading doing well, and perhaps possibly nicking an away win. sheffield united are unbeaten at home, but i think that record will end here.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on reading level @ 1.975 = $9.88

ATALANTA vs NAPOLI (SERIE A)

Napoli's revival has certainly been interesting. They used to have the likes of Diego Maradona and they were a force to be reckoned with, at least, until they got relegated and got declared bankrupt. This is a club with a rich heritage and this season they seem to be playing with this newfound belief. While they aren't the best away from home, Napoli still have a great squad capable of getting results, especially with the likes of Lavezzi and Hamsik and Denis in attack. While Atalanta will be more rested as Napoli had a midweek game, I feel the difference in quality will show for this match and Napoli will win it so that they can keep up with the top 2 who are only ahead by a point.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Napoli level ball @ 1.910 = $9.55

HULL vs MAN CITY (EPL)

I hate Hull, as when I bet on them, they lose, and when I bet against them they don't lose by a big enough margin. City though, are on level ball for this match, and I feel that it's a good bet to take. City and Hull are on similar runs in the EPL - 3 straight losses - and both teams need the points. City definitely has the advantage in terms of quality and Mark Hughes won't allow City to lose this match. Zabaleta should return from his suspension, so Micah Richards will be able to cover Dunne's absence in the centre of defence, so I don't forsee many problems for City.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man City level ball @ 1.810 = $9.05

i agree with roland. i think man city have too much quality to go on a 4-game losing streak, and hull's bubble has burst finally. they have a shitty defence and rode their luck in many a match this season. man city will expose their defensive weaknesses in this one.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on Man City level ball @ 1.810 = $9.05

FULHAM vs TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR (EPL)

And the Redknapp Revolution continues. After the 4-2 win over Liverpool, Spurs will be full of confidence. Fulham aren't a shit side and are decent enough at home, winning their last 2 home games. However, they were against Newcastle and Wigan, both hardly qualifying as top quality opposition, and I feel they'll be hard pressed to get a result against a Spurs side that is currently THE form team.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Tottenham Hotspur -0/0.5 @ 1.980 = $9.90

BOLTON vs LIVERPOOL (EPL)

Liverpool just crashed out of the Carling Cup, so Bolton will be on the unfortunate team that receives the backlash. Liverpool are too good to lose 2 games in a row, and with the return of Torres, should be able to win this match easily. Bolton have won 2 games in a row, which is 2 games too many for such a shit side. My last 3 bets involving Liverpool have all won, so lets hope my streak continues here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Liverpool -0.5/1 @ 1.800 = $9.00

BRISTOL ROVERS vs SCUNTHORPE UTD (ENGLISH LEAGUE ONE)

scunthorpe are on a hot streak of form, and are currently just behind table-toppers leicester city by a single point only. i fancy them to overcome bristol rovers tonight, who are seeing a run of fantastic form fizzle out in the past few games. at level ball, scunthorpe is definitely worth a shot.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on scunthorpe level @ 1.84 = $9.20

GUINGAMP vs TOURS (FRENCH LIGUE 2)

guingamp are a quality side but have somehow struggled to find their footing in ligue 2 all season. i fancy them to grab a home win tonight, against tours, who are rather mediocre as well.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on guingamp -0/0.5 @ 1.800 = $9.00

BLACKBURN vs SUNDERLAND (BPL)

blackburn may have beaten sunderland in the league cup, but that was in the league cup, and i don't think anyone could really care about that competition, certainly not clubs scrapping in a relegation dogfight. i think this might just be the best bet of the weekend, considering that blackburn are really shitty, and sunderland are really quite good. i don't see how sunderland will lose again, with the quality they have in their ranks.

Eddy's prediction: $10 on sunderland +0/0.5 @ 2.050 = $20.50

I agree with Eddy here. Quick fact: Sunderland have lost to Blackburn every time in their past 5 meetings. Sunderland are on a 4 match losing streak. Surely these trends won't continue, as Sunderland have a quality side and were rather unlucky in their loss to Portsmouth last weekend.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Sunderland +0/0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

Sunday, November 9, 2008

EINTRACHT FRANKFURT vs VFB STUTTGART (BUNDESLIGA)

vfb stuttgart go into this game on the back of two defeats in a row, to hamburg and to cologne. they desperately need the 3 points here to get their season back on track, and what better team to do it against than eintracht frankfurt, who have looked a class below them all season. eintracht frankfurt will be high on confidence though, given that they narrowly lost to bayern munich and managed to record a win against moenchengladbach last time out, so don't go all out on stuttgart.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on vfb stuttgart -0/0.5 @ 2.010 = $10.50

HERTHA BERLIN vs HOFFENHEIM (BUNDESLIGA)

hoffenheim are flying high in the bundesliga at the moment, and it's wonderful to see that a small team making astute (a little expensive, must be said) signings can be so successful. they have seen off the likes of hamburg and hannover 96 convincingly, and have only two defeats to their name, to werder bremen and bayer leverkusen, so no shame in that. they have won their last 5 in a row, and i think it's time for the run to come to an end. hertha berlin can be a dangerous side, and with a stouter defence than any of hoffenheim's last 5 opponents, i think hertha look ripe to end hoffenheim's dream run.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on hertha berlin level @ 1.98 = $9.90

Saturday, November 8, 2008

NOTTINGHAM FOREST vs BIRMINGHAM (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

birmingham have lost two on the trot, to coventry and wolves, and find themselves 4 points behind wolves currently. they can ill-afford another loss, and even a draw would be an unsatisfactory result given their ambitions of promotion. good news for them as seb larsson and radhi jaidi slowly regain match fitness, while the addition of nicky hunt on loan from bolton might help to stem the leak of goals at the back. i fancy birmingham to win this one, as nottingham forest are quite crap, and were lucky to SOMEHOW get a point against derby when the referee inexplicably disallowed two derby goals.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on birmingham -0/0.5 @ 1.800 = $9.00

BLACKPOOL vs IPSWICH (COCA-COLA CHAMPIONSHIP)

ipswich head into this game after a confidence-boosting 2-0 win over promotion contenders q.p.r and face a blackpool side that astonishingly went to watford and came away 4-3 winners. both teams will be high on confidence, but i expect ipswich to be able to bring blackpool down to earth, with the quality in their side proving the difference. the likes of moritz volz and owen garvan are quality and will be able to punish blackpool.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on ipswich level @ 2.01 = $10.05

TORINO vs PALERMO (SERIE A)

Palermo have been suffering from their loss of striker Amauri this season. Torino, however, are on an even worse run - scoring just 2 goals in their last 5 games and losing 4 of them. While the loss of Amauri is taking its toll, Palermo still have attacking pedigree with Edison Cavani, Fabio Simplicio and Fabrizio Miccoli. Also, their next 3 matches will have Inter, Bologna and AC Milan, thus 3 points for this match is crucial for Palermo and I think they will at least get something out of this match.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Palermo +0/0.5 @ 1.790 = $8.95

NAPOLI vs SAMPDORIA (SERIE A)

Sampdoria have won their last 3 games - Torino, Bologna and Partizan Belgrade. However, they haven't been great opposition. Napoli, on the other hand, just had a great 3 win run against much better opposition (Juve, Lazio, Reggina (okay, they are shit too)) ended with an unlucky loss to AC Milan, a match in which they had 1 man sent off but defended well until they unfortunately conceded an own goal. Denis has been great for Napoli, and they have great youngsters in Hamsik and Lavezzi. Napoli have won all games at home and I don't think their run will stop here.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Napoli -0.5 @ 1.840 = $9.20

FULHAM vs NEWCASTLE (EPL)

Newcastle have posted back to back wins at St James Park and it looks like their revival is on course under Joe Kinnear. Fulham, on the other hand, have had a very bad run - 3 straight losses, 2 draws, a lucky win over Wigan, then another loss to Everton. I think that Newcastle will probably nick this as they have belief going back into their side. With Gutierrez, Duff and Martins terrorizing the Fulham defence, I think Newcastle can at least draw this match.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Newcastle +0/0.5 @ 1.880 = $9.40

LIVERPOOL vs WEST BROM (EPL)

My last 2 bets involving Liverpool matches have been spot on, and both have been against Liverpool. This won't happen for 3 matches running and Liverpool will get their season back on track against West Brom, who might have been unlucky but definitely lack the quality to hold a Torres boosted Liverpool at Anfield. Liverpool's last 9 matches against West Brom have all been wins, so I guess this match is about how much they will win by. My guess is that they will win by a lot, as they look to erase their disappointment from being held to a draw against Atletico and losing to Spurs. Even if they can't score, they still have Stevie G to dive and win them a penalty, so bet on Liverpool this match.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Liverpool -1.5/2 @ 1.850 = $9.25

SUNDERLAND vs PORTSMOUTH (EPL)

Sunderland and Portsmouth will head into this match looking to avoid their third consecutive defeat. My logic in these matches is that since both teams need the points, it is always advisable to back the home team. While Kranjcar's return might be great news for Portsmouth, I doubt the players' loyalties to new manager Tony Adams. Hell, I don't even know if he's fit or experienced to be a Premiership manager. Sunderland are strong at home and I think they are worth backing for this match.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Sunderland -0/0.5 @ 2.050 = $10.25

HULL CITY vs BOLTON WANDERERS (EPL)

Hull City are THE surprise package of the season. They are high on confidence, and their bubble did not burst like I predicted. Instead, they will be even more confident after scoring 3 goals at Old Trafford, albeit they were mostly fortuitous (imo!). Captain Ian Ashbee returns from suspension, while Bolton's Kevin Nolan is suspended for this match. I think Hull will probably win this match as Bolton are shite, and Hull should be more than able to deal with Bolton's physical approach as they are able to "rough it out" as well.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Hull -0/0.5 @ 1.925 = $9.625

WIGAN vs STOKE (EPL)

Wigan have finally turned around their bad form of 4 losses in a row with a win over Portsmouth, but they still sit precariously at 17th position, just above the relegation zone. Wigan will be definitely desperate for points and Steve Bruce will ensure that they get them. They have a huge backline - Bramble, Boyce, Melchiot, Figueroa - that will ensure that they are capable of dealing with Rory Delap's artillery attacks. Kirkland is a class act playing for a decent-ish side and should be able to keep out most of Stoke's attacks. Amir Zaki is in great form and is the top scorer in the league at the moment, so I think Wigan will get maximum points at the JJB.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Wigan -0.5 @ 1.800 = $9.00

agree with roland here. wigan are a good side and with their ability to grind results out, they should be able to just edge stoke here. and i hope they do it, to erase the painful memories of stoke 2 arsenal 1 a little. haha

Eddy's prediction: $5 on wigan -0.5 @ 1.800 = $9.00

ARSENAL vs MANCHESTER UNITED (EPL)

Battle of the titans! No points for guessing who I'm going for here.. United, obviously! Everything points towards an Arsenal demise - their depleted strikeforce (Van Persie banned, Adebayor injured), injury problems (Eboue out, Walcott/Gallas doubtful, Silvestre broken nose), and bad form (conceded 2 late goals to draw 4-4 with arch-rivals Spurs, loss against Stoke, goalless draw at home to Fenerbahce). Do I need to justify my case any more? United might be the heavy boat on this one but I really don't see Arsenal getting anything out of this match.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Man United -0/0.5 @ 1.960 = $9.80

it all seems to point to a manu win doesn't it? injury news, current form, confidence, past results...etc. everything would point you to a man utd win, if logic is used. however, we've all been here before, if you fancy a punt every weekend on your football matches. walcott, gallas and silvestre are "doubtful". now, "doubtful" is a word often used to mislead people into thinking they won't play, to encourage a flurry of betting for the other team, leading to a heavy boat. and you know what often happens to heavy boats. yup, they sink. in this case, however, it really looks like man utd are strong favourites for this one, but considering the fact that arsenal are at home, and have not won in like 3 matches, i think they will dig deep and at least hold out for a draw.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on arsenal +0/0.5 @ 2.00 = $10.00

Friday, November 7, 2008

KASHIWA REYSOL vs NAGOYA GRAMPUS EIGHT (J LEAGUE)

nagoya have gone on a 4-match winless streak in the j league, where they scraped to draws in each and every single one of those games. their cup win over fc gifu will perhaps help to restore confidence for nagoya, and bring back the winning touch for them against a reysol side who are not very good at defending. nagoya are still in the title hunt, and a win here would help them keep up the pressure on kashima antlers.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on nagoya grampus level ball @ 1.90 = $9.50

ATLANTA HAWKS vs TORONTO RAPTORS (NBA)

this is a historic moment for us here at thetipsters.blogspot.com, as i bring to you the very first NBA tip here, considering how it's been largely successful for me. the atlanta hawks are 3-0 so far this season, with their most impressive win being the most recent one where they went to new orleans and somehow managed to achieve an away win there. the raptors have also impressed, but their most recent game saw them lose to the pistons. considering the fact that the pistons are a well-drilled outfit, that shouldn't be too much of a concern for raptors fans. i think the hawks have over-achieved in the games they've played so far, and i think the time is right for the raptors to end their winning streak, as bosh and calderon have looked really menacing. should jermaine o'neal get back to anything resembling his true form, the hawks could really suffer.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on toronto raptors +3 @ 1.90 = $9.50

CLERMONT FOOT vs FC METZ (FRENCH LIGUE 2)

prior to last weekend, metz endured a bad run of 3 games where they were held by sedan, chateauroux, and beaten by brest. they are, however, a quality side, and i expect them to be able to push clermont foot, despite being the away team. the likes of babacar gueye and cyril chapuis should be able to stretch the clermont foot defence. their good form at home is something to take note of though, losing only once in 7 games. this stat is rather surprising considering the lack of quality in their squad, and i expect them to lose at home for only the second time this season.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on fc metz level ball @ 1.88 = $9.40

ALBIREX NIIGATA vs TAMPINES ROVERS (S-LEAGUE)

both teams are capable of scoring lots of goals with their free-flowing attacking football, so whatever the result, tune in tonight to watch both teams carve out patterns with their passing moves on the jalan besar pitch. one might expect loads of goals in this one, but i think that with both sides wary of each other's attacking prowess, this might actually turn out to be quite cagey, with neither team willing to throw too many players forward. also, the jalan besar artificial turf takes a little getting used to, and this is why i think it might actually be a low-scoring affair.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on total goals under 3/3.5 @ 1.90 = $9.50

Thursday, November 6, 2008

STANDARD LIEGE vs SEVILLA (UEFA CUP)

Sevilla started their season off with 8 wins and 2 draws in 10 games before slumping to a string of 3 defeats. I don't see Sevilla losing here as they do have quality in their side and will not lose 3 games in a row. Nevertheless, Standard Liege have proven their worth against bigger teams - holding Liverpool to a 0-0 draw and beating Everton 2-1 at home. However, do remember that they were against a Liverpool that had not clicked into gear, and an Everton who had suffered a long string of defeats that left them demoralized and low on confidence. I fancy the quality of Luis Fabiano and Jesus Navas to bring Sevilla a much needed victory.

Roland's prediction: $5 on Sevilla -0/0.5 @ 1.950 = $9.75

LECH POZNAN vs AS NANCY (UEFA CUP)

lech poznan is an unknown team from poland. they are so unknown that i don't know shit about them. my theory is: if they were any good, we'd have heard about them. as such, i'm backing nancy in this one, as i think despite being the away team, they will not lose.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on nancy +0/0.5 @ 1.73 = $8.65

FEYENOORD vs CSKA MOSCOW (UEFA CUP)

cska moscow will focus all their attention to the uefa cup now, given that rubin kazan have already sewn up the russian league title. as such, i expect them to be able to see off the challenge of feyenoord, who have struggled all season. at level ball, cska is a brilliant bet, as i really can't see feyenoord getting a win, despite the fact that they are at home.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on cska moscow level @ 1.75 = $8.75

I agree with Eddy, as CSKA Moscow has tonnes of quality, like Vagner Love who is banging in goals for fun.

Roland's prediction: $5 on CSKA Moscow level @ 1.75 = $8.75

METALIST KHARKIV vs HERTHA BERLIN (UEFA CUP)

hertha berlin go into this game after a 5-1 drubbing by werder bremen at the weekend, which was kinda unexpected. metalist kharkiv, on the other hand, are flying high in the ukrainian league and their weekend win over chernomorets has led to them being favourites in this match. however, i feel that being the away team actually suits hertha berlin in this case, as their forwards have the pace to really trouble kharkiv on the counter-attack. pantelic and voronin have been in good form, and i think hertha berlin at level ball is a good bet.

Eddy's prediction: $5 on hertha berlin level @ 2.15 = $10.75
