ZARAGOZA vs REAL MADRID (LA LIGA)

<2.15> <3.40> <2.70>

Champions Real Madrid totally outclassed Barcelona in the 4-1 trashing. They have so much quality going forward - Raul, Van Nistelrooy, Robben, Sneijder, Robinho, etc. While Zaragoza definitely need to win to ensure that they are safe from relegation, the odds of 2.70 on Real Madrid are too irresistible.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Real Madrid @ 2.70 = $13.50

VALLADOLID vs GETAFE (LA LIGA)

<2.10> <3.15> <3.00>

getafe and valladolid have one thing in common. they have both looked solid, and even impressive at times, but somehow, they find themselves in a relegation battle. however, i just expect getafe, who have been very unlucky this season in cup competitions to just be able to edge valladolid in this game, as odds of 3.00 are quite hard to ignore. getafe to win.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on getafe @ 3.00 = $15.00

LEVANTE vs VALENCIA (LA LIGA)

<3.85> <3.25> <1.78>

valencia face bottom club levante in this local derby knowing that a win should seal their status as a top-flight club. levante have nothing much to play for, and they are shit. valencia have some good players, and i sometimes wonder how the hell they got themselves into such a position. i think they will win to finally make sure they will not be relegated.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on valencia @ 1.78 = $8.90

Bottom club Levante take on Valencia. Valencia have great players on paper but this hasn't been their season. They should be challenging for automatic qualification for the Champions League but are floundering in 14th place. I am pretty sure that they have more than enough quality to see off Levante.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Valencia @ 1.78 = $8.90

EVERTON vs NEWCASTLE (EPL)

<1.75> <3.20> <4.10>

newcastle have recently had their bubble broken by chelsea, as their 7-match unbeaten run was brought to a halt. everton have looked shitty recently, but they will have to lift their game here if they want to secure european matches for goodison park next season. aston villa are likely to win the game against west ham, and so everton know they must win or draw here. home advantage, plus the fact that barton and viduka are out, should rule newcastle out of the running to win this match.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on everton @ 1.75 = $8.75
$5 on draw @ 3.20 = $16.00

Everton haven't played great football the last few weeks and thoroughly deserve their 4 game winless streak. With Arteta and Cahill still out, they have no great attacking players, especially with Yakubu's goal spree drying up. With Viduka and Barton out,
N'Zogbia and Duff may get to feature and they are pretty good attacking wise. Newcastle might sneak this one, but a draw is much more likely.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Newcastle @ 4.10 = $20.50
$5 on Draw @ 3.20 = $16.00

BIRMINGHAM vs BLACKBURN (EPL)

<1.90> <3.25> <3.40>

If you told me that Blackburn were @ 3.40 to beat Birmingham away at any point in this season, I would not hesitate in selling all my belongings and throw in all of my university funds to bet on Blackburn. I don't see why this match should be any different. Birmingham have the relegation dog fight syndrome backing them but with McFadden and Ridgewell being doubtful for the match, I think Blackburn can take this one. Who'd have thought that Blackburn would be underdogs against a 19th placed side?

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Blackburn @ 3.40 = $17.00

PORTSMOUTH vs FULHAM (EPL)

<2.85> <3.30> <2.10>

portsmouth miss david james and sol campbell for this match. however, the return of muntari and utaka is set to boost portmouth, who have been getting bad results of late, despite playing some cracking football. fulham need to win this to stay in the epl, but if "need to win" was really such a major factor, reading would have beaten tottenham last week, and we all know how that one turned out. portsmouth are the better side on paper, and i just can't see fulham getting another away win in such a short span of time. however, i'd be happy both ways. if pompey win, i win money, if fulham win, i'm happy they didn't get relegated.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on portsmouth @ 2.85 = $14.25

Agree with Eddy. Pompey have played good football, especially down the wings, but haven't had the results come their way. It's a case of his age-old "the rot will stop" theory for Portsmouth. Ashdown hasn't been bad when coming in for David James, I remember him making some great saves against Blackburn. Anyway, as said for the Blackburn tip, Portsmouth are slight underdogs going into a HOME match against an 18th PLACED TEAM. Fulham have been great lately, playing good possession football but I think it's time for a Portsmouth win just before their FA cup final. Hell, Defoe is going to bang in 3 goals because he's cup tied for the FA cup final. Go for Portsmouth.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Portsmouth @ 2.85 = $14.25

WEST HAM vs ASTON VILLA (EPL)

<2.65> <3.15> <2.30>

Keeping this short and simple. Anton Ferdinand is out, Matthew Upson is doubtful. West Ham won't be able to cope with Carew. Ashton is doubtful for this match and a front line of Zamora and Carlton Cole shouldn't be able to trouble a Villa defence. West Ham have nothing to play for but Villa will be motivated to try and get 5th for UEFA cup qualification when off form Everton host Newcastle.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Aston Villa @ 2.30 = $11.50

DERBY vs READING (EPL)

<6.80> <3.60> <1.42>

derby head into this match looking for their second win of a disastrous season for them. reading know that this match has to go for them, or they will be relegated for sure. seems like a reading win for sure, but i just think that derby players should have the decency to put up a great show for their fans to thank them for their unending support throughout the season. i would have had a derby win, but it's almost impossible to back derby nowadays. i will however, have a bet on derby +1.5, which will cover a draw, a derby win, or a narrow derby defeat.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on derby +1.5 @ 1.50 = $7.50

I think Derby will lose by 1 goal. Reading haven't done shit this season and deserve to go down, but Derby have been shittier. It's just a battle of shittiness and it'll be a shit match with a shit result: 0-1.

- Roland's prediction: $5 on Derby +1.5 @ 1.50 = $7.50

CRYSTAL PALACE vs BRISTOL CITY (CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS)

<1.70> <3.20> <4.40>

crystal palace won their last match 5-0, and will be on a high going into this playoff game with bristol city. honestly, i wonder how bristol city even made it this far. their squad looks shit, and they seem to be able to win games they don't deserve to win. however, when it comes to the crunch, i just fancy crystal palace's experience and overall better squad quality, so it has to be a home win.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on crystal palace @ 1.70 = $8.50

GOMBAK UNITED vs TOBACCO FC (SINGAPORE CUP)

<2.77> <3.10> <2.10>

i'll keep this one short, as i feel there's not much to be said. gombak haven't won for quite a while, and as such, they will win this match. tobacco fc are supposedly a rather solid outfit from thailand, but news has it that they're not sending their foreigners down for this match, and they'll just use it for exposure. as such, i see 2.77 as un-ignorable odds for gombak to win this one.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on gombak @ 2.77 = $13.85

THE WEEKLY ROUND-UP

well, after a kinda bad weekend last time out, i've gone on a winning streak of sorts, winning 9/11 of my bets. pretty good way to bounce back, in my opinion. west ham let me down when i put faith in them to not lose by 3 or more. with nani sent off, and down 3-1, surely the least they could do was to just hold on? but matchfixers/curbishley ensured that did not happen, as carrick sent in a lucky shot to make it 4-1. my good singaporean/asian form continued with winning bets on gamba, adelaide, saffc, young lions, home utd. im hoping to continue my good form in asian football, while improve on my form in the epl, and of course, european football. look out for more winning tips from me! - Eddy

ESPANYOL vs ATLETICO MADRID (LA LIGA)

<3.05> <3.10> <2.10>

both sides come into this game with unwanted streaks they will look to end. espanyol are winless in 7, atletico haven't won away since march. however, i just see atletico madrid winning this one because they are desperate for that champions league spot. espanyol have nothing much to play for, after a terrible run of form has seen their early title challenge fade. to add to their woes, star striker raul tamudo, inventive playmaker ivan de la pena, along with a whole host of other players, are out for this match.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on atletico @ 2.10 = $10.50

ADELAIDE vs POHANG STEELERS (AFC Champions League)

<1.53> <3.30> <5.20>

pohang steelers have no hope of qualifying for the next phase, and as such, their coach has elected to leave almost half the regular first team in korea for this away trip to adelaide. this will obviously be an advantage for adelaide, who would like a win to enhance their chances of making the knockout stages. changchun yatai are 2 points behind them, with 2 games to go, with tonights match against binh duong being the first one. that will be a convincing win for changchun for sure, so if adelaide get a draw or a loss, they will need to go to changchun on matchday 6 needing a win. i'm sure adelaide wouldn't want to be in such a position, so i'm tipping them for the win tonight.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on adelaide @ 1.53 = $7.65

THAI CHONBURI vs GAMBA OSAKA (AFC Champions League)

<3.35> <3.25> <1.85>

gamba osaka go into this game in thailand needing only a draw to book their place in the next stage of the champions league. coach nishino has already stated that he will start most of his first-teamers, including akira kaji, bare, lucas, and of course, yasuhito endo. if nishino actually keeps his word, then i don't think they'll end up with a draw here, and are very likely to emerge with all 3 points to book their place in the next stage in style. gamba osaka to win. gambatte gamba!

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on gamba osaka @ 1.85 = $9.25

DALIAN vs HOME UNITED (SINGAPORE CUP)

<6.50> <3.85> <1.40>

this will be dalian's first ever match in the singapore cup, and also their last of the season. home united have lost 2 league matches on the trot, losing 2-1 to balestier khalsa and spanked 4-2 by tampines rovers, but i fully expect them to recover here, by beating dalian, as they will be knocked out if they fail to do so. home united are missing shi jiayi, juma'at jantan and possibly peres de oliveira, and that's why i'm not going for them on the -1.5 handicap, as they might struggle to create. but they'll still win.

- Eddy's prediction: $10 on home united @ 1.40 = $14.00

BOCHUM vs SCHALKE 04 (BUNDESLIGA)

<3.35> <3.30> <1.90>

schalke 04 go into this match needing to win it to get themselves into a good position to clinch second spot so they do not have to play qualifiers to enter the champions league. bochum, on the other hand, have nothing much to play for, in this game, as they're safe from relegation, yet too far from the european spots. injury news sees gustavo varela miss out, but that shouldn't pose too much of a problem for schalke, who have looked a solid outfit this season. however, this being a ruhr derby, don't go betting your life savings on them.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on schalke @ 1.90 = $9.50

YOUNG LIONS vs PHNOM PENH FC (SINGAPORE CUP)

<1.30> <5.30> <5.80>

young lions head into this match after a morale-boosting 2-1 win over woodlands wellington. jasper chan was on top form that day, repelling everything woodlands could throw at him. khairul amri was also at his imperious best, as he teased the woodlands defenders whenever he got the ball. nothing is known about phnom penh fc, and my theory is this. if they were any good, we would have heard of them - so they suck. i'm going for young lions to beat them convincingly.

- Eddy's prediction: $10 on young lions @ 1.30 = $13.00
$5 on young lions - 2.5 @ 2.10 = $10.50
$5 on young lions to lead at half time @ 1.55 = $7.75

NEWCASTLE vs CHELSEA (EPL)

<5.20> <3.70> <1.50>

newcastle should be rather confident heading into this one, having not lost since god knows when. chelsea, however, will need to take maximum points from this game to have any chance at landing the title. newcastle's run has got to end someday, and i think today will be the day. there's just too much at stake here for chelsea, and i think they should win this one.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on chelsea @ 1.50 = $7.50

ALBIREX NIIGATA vs SENGKANG PUNGGOL (S-LEAGUE)

<1.47> <3.65> <5.70>

albirex go into this match against sengkang having narrowly lost their last game to woodlands wellington 2-1. they have a good team that plays positive football, but sometimes theyre just too naive to win matches. against a sengkang team that has scored 2 in 11, i would think that albirex's goal will not let in more than 1 goal. and albirex are capable of scoring 2. so that means, i'm tipping an albirex win.

- Eddy's prediction: $10 on albirex @ 1.47 = $14.70

Sunday, May 4, 2008

GEYLANG vs SAFFC (S-LEAGUE)

<4.60> <3.75> <1.55>

saffc haven't won in the league in 3 games, and that just isn't right for a team like them. geylang are on a hot run of form though, sparked off by that remarkable win over tampines rovers a few weeks back which brought me a lot of money. however, coming into this one, i fancy saffc to get their title chase back on track, with a win over geylang.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on saffc @ 1.55 = $7.75

CRYSTAL PALACE vs BURNLEY

<1.33> <4.10> <7.50>

crystal palace go into this game knowing that a victory would ensure they make the playoffs, and that would mean a shot at entering the epl next season. burnley, on the other hand, have nothing much to play for, meaning crystal palace should be able to win. to add to burnley's woes, they are facing a striker crisis, as robbie blake is the only senior striker left, after the rest have somehow managed to get themselves injured at the same time.

- Eddy's prediction: $10 on crystal palace @ 1.33 = $13.30

OSASUNA vs REAL MADRID (LA LIGA)

<3.00> <3.25> <2.05>

real madrid go into this match knowing that a win would see them sealing up the title, and an added bonus would be their bitter rivals barca having to form a guard of honour for them next week when they meet in el clasico. as such, i think real will go all out for the win, and with cannavaro and van nistelrooy back in contention, i think they have the necessary quality to defeat osasuna here. however, osasuna are fighting for their la liga lives, so don't go in too heavy.

- Eddy's prediction: $5 on real madrid @ 2.05 = $10.25
